Copper alloys usually have very good resilience to saltwater, making them suited to marine engineering applications. Although the content of nickel in the alloy is higher, (nickel is about 67% of the weight of the total alloy), the Alloy 400 Fittings will exhibit good resistance to caustic solutions and brine as well. Caustic solutions including potassium or sodium hydroxide solutions do not affect alloys in mild concentration at ambient temperature settings. However, this is not the case if the temperature of the solution or concentration were to increase. Ordinary steels would rapidly corrode. Yet, the Monel Pipe Fittings manufacturer in India recommends using this alloy in environments that have a higher concentration of caustic solutions. Hardening this alloy will yield a tougher material, making it possible for it to be used in applications involving oil refineries. Since this alloy is hardened by cold workings, the problems associated with heat treatment are eliminated. One such issue is contamination, which is not the case in Monel 400 Fittings due to cold working. Alloy contaminations cause oxidation corrosion if improper treatment is given. Here, cold working improves the dimensional stability of the piece being treated. This in combination with the resistance of the alloy to corrosion and toughness means the Monel 400 Pipe Fittings is fit for heavy duty applications.The content of nickel in the alloy gives it great mechanical characteristics even when it is being used in atmospheres where the temperatures border on sub-zero. Monel Fittings also work well in conditions where the temperatures reach as high as 1000° F. One of the specifications followed by manufacturers to produce wrought fittings is ASTM B366. Under this specification, there are several shaping operations listed down. It is possible to use a combination of two or greater operations during the manufacture of the ASTM B366 UNS N04400 fittings.
